3 Easy Steps to Update Your Campground Business Listing Online

3 Easy Steps to Update Your Campground Business Listing Online

Make sure your campers can find you when they are booking their next trip.

It seems obvious, but it’s more important than it’s ever been to ensure that your address, phone number, website, and other details about your campsite are up to date and correct both on your website, and in your Google or Bing  listing, sites like YELP, TripAdvisor, and more. This contact information is truly the holy grail for how campers find, review, and ultimately  book you over your competitors. You want to make sure this low hanging fruit is accurate. Powerful tools like SEO (Search Engine Optimization), that companies like Martrek specialize in, are going to use this data to help serve you to customers during their online searches, and you want to make sure that you show up at the top.

But, where do you begin? It’s as easy as 3 easy steps to update your campground business listing online in this post and you will be able to get started on the path towards website and listing optimization like never before.

What is your business listing and why is it important? Companies like Google have established an online version of the old school Yellow Pages, that customers and potential customers use to find your detailed contact information using search engines, like, you guessed it, Google and Bing. But it also populates maps, particularly important for your customers looking for a campground near a specific location. They have also powered the industry to have these same listings populate credible travel and customer service industry sites perfect for finding campgrounds like Yelp, Trip Advisor, and more.

The first thing you need to do is make sure you have a Google Account for your Campground or RV Park so that you can “claim/verify” your business online and make sure that your contact information is up to date and accurate. According to Google, businesses that have a verified Google Business Listing are twice as likely to be considered credible by your potential customers.

If you have not yet done this first step of verification, you can easily follow Google’s step -by-step instructions on how to verify your account. If this is your first time, you will most likely not need to do the next steps to update your contact information online because you will be doing that during the verification process. Remember- it can take up to a few weeks for your information to be updated across Google, so make sure to do this right away if you have not done so already.

If you have already verified your account, and have your Google Business Listing log in information, you are going to follow these quick steps:

Step 1: Sign In

2. Click on “Edit My Profile/Business Information”

Update the areas of information that need to be fixed, and add any missing information that might be present. Types of information you can update are:

    1. Business Name
    2. Category
    3. Address (especially important for updating maps)
    4. Service Area
    5. Hours
    6. Phone Number
    7. Website
    8. Attributes
    9. Opening Date
    10. Photos

For campgrounds and RV Parks, we highly recommend updating hours, opening date, and photos to your listing so that users can quickly and easily find the information that they want, and see some real images of your site and amenities that you offer. While it is most likely that campgrounds or RV Parks will not commonly change their address by moving, it might have been wrong in your listing if you have not checked your account in a while. If this is the case and you do update your address, you will have to re verify your business listing. You can click the link in this article to re verify your business again after you complete this step.

3. Next, follow these similar steps on other sites like Bing.

  1.  You can sign up for your account and verify your business with Bing following this link here.
  2. Claim your business and update your listing on Yelp by following the steps here.
  3. Claim your business and update your listing on Trip Advisor Here

Other places that you will want to check as a campground or RV Park might be:

  1. Campground apps like RVLife, Campendium, CampUSA, Recreation.gov, HipCamp, Allstays, Campspot, The Dyrt, iOverlander, GoodSam, and more.

It can seem tedious completing these checks, but the benefit outweigh the time spent, as it is free to do this manually. After you have followed these 3 easy steps to update your campground business listing online and made the updates, scheduling regular reminders yearly to check your listings  or ensuring it is built into your processes when you make major updates to your campground, you should be good to go. Happy booking!
